Do not stand near a tensioned winch cable or attempt to help pull the vehicle by hand. Keep passengers, pets, and bystanders clear of the recovery area. If you are in a ditch, on a slope, or near water, avoid walking around the vehicle because the ground may be slippery or unstable.
